- The front kit requires 185 PSI with out the shock relocaters and 155 with them.
- Drop spindles allow the vehicle to get the vehicle to it's lowest point.
- Heaters will not work with out modification with this kit
- The exit ducts from the body might need to be trimmed to clear to fit your application.
- The front most brackets are slotted left to right along with the upper air bag mounts to allow for perfect adjustment.
- The pressure switch supplied is adjustable so it can allow your system to be dialed into the pressure your vehicle requires for lift and speed.
- If your VW was built in the UK and you have a Ball Joint front suspension and Swing axle rear suspension, you will need to purchase the 66-68 complete kit regardless of the actual year of the vehicle.
Kits Contains - 2x air sleeve shocks, 2x through rods, 2x upper shock mounts, hardware and fittings. The rear kit includes the following: 2x 2500lb air bags, 2x Doetsch Tech lowered shocks, mounting brackets, heim joints, hardware and fittings.
Air Management Kits - All kits will come with the same base parts but the valving will change in each kit. Each kit will come with a Viair 280 Compressor that is 12v. If you have a 6 volt system, you will need either a 12 volt battery to run the system or change over your ride to 12 volt. The kit also comes with a 2 gallon tank. An adjustable pressure switch along with a 12v relay and harness also accompany the kit. This allows you to adjust the speed and consistency of air management system. This switch send a signal to the compressor to come on at a certain PSI so that you always have air in the tank when ever you need it. Its what we call, ON DEMAND. Each kit contain a hardware pack and 1/4" fitting pack. It will also come with an est. 100 feet of 1/4" hose. You might ask, why do we use 1/4" line. One word, LIABILITY. Everybody that is in the mini truck industry, use 3/8" or 1/2" maybe even bigger line to make there vehicle lift fast or even hop. These kit will not take that kind of abuse. If you attempt the parts will fail, so use at your own risk. Now on to the valving. Your 4 valve kit comes standard in each kit, This will allow you to lift the front of the vehicle up and down as well as lift the rear up and down, as well as lift each wheel individually. This will give the car great handling characteristics. This is also a manual valve, air goes in as you lift the toggle up and when you depress the toggle, air comes out. This kit is outfitted with a dual need gauges to monitor pressures.
Recommendations - For all applications, the standard air ride kit will do what you need. If you want to get as close to the ground as possible, get the drop spindles. If you are going to use stock wheels, you want to go with 135sr15 tires up front and a 2" narrowed beam. If you plan on going with a 5.5" wide wheel similar to an EMPI five spoke, BRM or Sprint star, a 4" narrowed beam would be ideal. Porsche 4.5's in the front, I would go with a 3" narrowed beam and the air ride. We also recommend doing the install with the body off, with a 220 amp welder and some one who has experience welding. For pre 58 cars with a Split Trans or transaxle end castings that are parallel with the spring plates, you will need to change those out to 59-65 models available
here. Some people would like to lessen the PSI needed to lift the vehicle. To do this, you can purchase these lower shock relocaters found
here.
Why an Air Ride Kit? - Are you tired of the stiff ride? Are you looking to have an adjustable suspension with a flip of a switch? Are you dragging you car everywhere you go? Can't get into your driveway? If any of these questions pertain to a need that you have, then the Complete Air Ride Kit is your answer. Should I install them or have a licensed mechanic install them? If funds allow, have a trained technician install them. Better to have them make sure everything is right and you will not be second guessing yourself. If you are educated and have the correct tools, a back yard mechanic can install them but we do recommend you have a professional take a look after you are done.
