The Barrett Jackson Bay Bus was originally going to be built on a budget....and as the adage goes, it wasn't. We purchased a 1970 Deluxe bus is not great condition but totally buildable and do so on a decent budget.
The Bus was rendered by Dave Knebes at Knebes 3d Renderings. It was going to be built with a lowering kit, two tone paint, smooth windows, tucked bumpers, 17" Smoothies and a sexy interior. But it went farther, way farther.
Mike Hall had the job of painting the bus the Sahara beige and Texas brown. Marker lights were shaved both front and rear, OEM emblems were filled and shaved and a new battery box was installed. The bumpers were shaved of their bumper bolts, sectioned to hug the body better and sucked into the body for a more uniform fit. Deluxe moldings were sourced, repaired and painted with new bumper pads.
Handles were rekeyed and a few parts were rechromed for better looks. Stainless steel trim was installed along with Hella headlight rings and H4 bulbs. New windows through out the bus were installed including new one piece glass for the rear 4 side glasses along with a new non defroster rear glass with no trim rubbers.
All seals were sourced from Wolfsburg West along with switches, grommets and various lenses.
The front end is lowered with Transporthaus flipped spindles, new torsions and Ridetech Adjustable shocks. New drag link and BAD Series Wide 5 Disc Brakes featuring Wilwood calipers were installed. We also installed a dual circuit disc master as well. The rear brakes are rebuilt stock brakes with turned drums, new wheel cylinders and shoes. 4" drop plates were installed along with a set of drop shocks.
A freeway flyer trans was built by Bill at AZ transaxle with new CV axles and really flies with the larger Ring and pinion. New starter was installed as well.
Engine is a 1776cc built by Dan at Competition Engineering with Dual Kadrons and this bus purrrrrrsss. Deep sump, breather system, hardline fuel system, the engine bay is clean!!
Wheels that are on it currently are 3 Piece PRObuilt Smoothies in Satin Texas Brown and polished hoops with Sahara Beige caps. New Kumho tires are mounted all the way around. Smooth ride, great look, amazing feel.
Interior sports Wolfsburg West headliner, custom German square weave carpeting through out and a match painted dash. Gauges were rebuilt by Orange Empire Speedometer. Steering wheel is a Billet Specialties wheel with matched leather wrap. Black Mamba shifter, custom pedals and bamboo floor mats finish it off.
Seat frames are powder coated silver beige and are outfitted with chocolate leather, ivory leather and Burberry leather inserts. Wolfsburg West seatbelts are installed up front and 2 seats in the middle have belts.
Flip up TV Radio has been installed in the radio hole and has been wired up with a single speaker.
