For this particular application, were are going to narrow them 2" on each side for a total of a 4" narrowed application Once measured 16 3/16" on each side, we will re-dimple them on each side
Our high speed torsion bit was chosen to do this job. We centered in the drill press making sure it was level. We added some cutting fluid to keep the heat off of the cutting tool. You only need to dimple the torsions about a depth of 3/16. Once dimpled, I measure about 1/8th of inch on each side and you a chop saw to cut off the excess. Once cut, I take a bench grinder, pad sander or something similar to knock the edge to give a 45 degree angle for better installation. One point I would like to make. Do not take the amount you want off of one side. When working with older springs, they have a habit of working in the same location for a long time. If you change it up in the center, there could be issues.
